Ceasefire on Healthcare

Pfizer

Recognizing Congress needs to take action to address the growing number of uninsured Americans, former U.S. Senator John Breaux launched a campaign designed to avoid partisanship and focus on establishing common ground between political parties. This effort, entitled Ceasefire on Health Care, is sponsored by American University’s Center for Congressional and Presidential Studies and made possible by a grant from Pfizer.

Spectrum worked to generate visibility for the bipartisan campaign by coordinating a series of events in Washington, D.C. and local areas, beginning with a roundtable luncheon with Sen. Robert Menendez (D-NJ) and Rep. Joe Schwarz, M.D. (R-MI). Spectrum secured coverage of the luncheon in several leading publications, including The Wall Street Journal and Congressional Quarterly.

The campaign offered prominent policymakers from both ends of the political spectrum, such as Sen. Hillary Clinton and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, a forum to exchange ideas and propose solutions. To promote the campaign, Spectrum has created media materials, managed event activities, and designed, developed and maintained the campaign Web site.

Spectrum continues to raise awareness of the Ceasefire on Health Care campaign and the important dialogue it is creating. Since its launch in June 2005, Spectrum has helped generate extensive stories on the campaign in The Washington Post, National Journal, Associated Press, C-SPAN and USA Today.
