The long-awaited results of the African American Heart Failure Trial (A-HeFT), the largest study conducted in an all Black heart failure population, were announced at an American Heart Association’s late-breaking session. Using the nitric oxide-enhancing drug in development by NitroMed, Inc., BiDil® demonstrated a 43 percent increase in survival and a significant improvement in quality of life for Black heart failure patients.
Spectrum worked with NitroMed to present the results to reporters from the country’s premier media outlets—including the Associated Press, USA Today, Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Boston Globe, Baltimore Sun, ABC “World News Tonight,” CBS “Eye on America,” NPR and “The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer. “ Spectrum coordinated release of the data and arranged one-on-one interviews with A-HeFT trial investigators and NitroMed spokespeople.
