Spectrum Names Katherine Maynard Chief Operating Officer
Assumes New Leadership Post At Global Health Communications, Policy Firm
WASHINGTON, DC (June 10, 2009) - Leading health communications and public affairs firm Spectrum named Katherine J. Maynard as its Chief Operating Officer, a new position.
"Katherine's 11-year track record of nothing less than success at Spectrum has earned her an uncommon respect among clients and fellow team members," said President and CEO John J. Seng, the firm's founder. "As COO, she will guide the firm to its potential as the agency of choice for organizations anywhere that seek to improve personal and societal health," Seng added.
"The health communications agency sector and the clients we serve are experiencing a time of marked change and uncertainty," said Maynard. "Nonetheless, Spectrum has increased its focus on health policy, public affairs and digital communications as client service and counseling opportunities," she added. "My mission as COO is to ensure that Spectrum continues to deliver excellence in everything we do, from issue campaigns to in-depth science communications."
Spectrum's Washington headquarters ranks as the largest health communications office in the Nation's capital, with 47 staff.
In 1998, Ms. Maynard relocated to Washington and joined Spectrum from one of the firm's charter clients, a biotechnology company. Since then, she has directed strategy and execution of communications programs for nationwide pharmaceutical product launches and patient advocacy communications campaigns, spanning the women's health research, oncology, dermatology, infertility, contraception and cardiology categories. She became Executive Vice President, Client Services in early 2007, and today counsels health industry, hospitals, medical professional societies and third-party organization clients of Spectrum.
At Spectrum, Maynard will assume responsibility for overall management of the firm's day-to-day operations, including client services, business development, finance and human resources.
2009 developments at Spectrum under Maynard's leadership include the opening of a New York office, the rebranding of the firm, and the launch of the Spectrum Health Value StudyTM (www.healthvaluestudy.com), proprietary research that explores how Americans value health when they consider spending their own money.
